The Mavs are in the process of finalizing a two-year, $10 million deal with Dirk Nowitzki. Considering Dirk’s legacy and loyalty to the franchise combined with his solid production in limited minutes last season, he is considered to be leaving a lot of money on the table. The Mavs are almost certainly basing his contract on the fact that Dirk will be turning 40 before the start of the new season and they probably expect his production to drop off.
Looking at his numbers from last year, Dirk averaged 14 ppg & 6 rpg while shooting 44% from the field with limited talent around him. He has a slow, patient game that ages extremely well. It focuses on being crafty and using slight of hand more than anything. With rookie point guard, Dennis Smith Jr. coming to town and veteran coach, Rick Carlisle in place, there’s no reason to believe that Dirk days of productivity are over.
