This fight was extra special. Two Olympians both whom of which won two gold medals got the opportunity to meet in the ring. The fight took place at The Theater at MSG and the result was in favor of Lomachenko due to Rigondeaux suffering a left wrist injury.
The start of the fight was very smoothly as both fighters were feeling each other out. Some hard punches were thrown and the majority came from Lomachenko. Rigondeaux kept ducking and according to fight officials, he expressed the pain in his left wrist in the third round.
Then came the end of Round 6 as chaos unleashed. Rigo’s corner shared his injury thus declaring Loma as the winner.
We’re only left to wonder one thing-did Rigo really get injured? It would explain his lack of punches but then again, was this fight too much and he simply avoided a bigger injury?
To those of you declaring this the fight of the year, it’s not and in some sense, we should all feel cheated on because so much more was expected. Rigo earns his first loss in the oddest of ways.
