Even though we had the disaster that was Mayweather vs McGregor, this year in boxing hasn’t been bad at all. Fans have been spoiled and now, here’s another goodie to add. Guillermo Rigondeaux is set to take on Vasyl Lomachenko.
There are many special stats surrounding this fight such as that this is the first time that two Olympians, whom of which have won gold twice, are going toe to toe. Many are calling it the fight of the year and quite frankly, there are so many components that can very well make it the fight of the year.
Much like Cotto vs Ali, there is a significant age difference and in my opinion, that could very well be a deciding factor. You saw how fatigued Cotto got as the fight loomed into the 12th round, and even in the previous rounds as well. Will age also show out considering the fact that Rigo is 37? But at the same time, I’m torn because Rigo still possesses that speed that many love about him. He has the experience in the ring that Loma lacks. Will expertise come out on top? It’ll definitely ruffle some feathers.
On the other hand, Lomachenko has the ability to deliver that knock out in perhaps the 7th or 8th round. In addition, he’s a tad taller than Rigo. There are so many elements that give Loma the advantage. Loma’s record might still be on the small side since he’s at 9-1 which includes 7 knock outs. Since losing to Orlando Salido, it appears that he’s learned a lot and has virtually become dominant in the ring.
All in all, one thing you can definitely expect is excitement. As many of you have read, many are choosing Loma to come out on top. Rigo has not stayed quiet and has added to the trash talk.
“Like with anyone else, we’re gonna resolve this issue and I’m gonna just beat the s**t out of him. I know what I’m bringing.
“I don’t know what the hell he’s bringing, but I know what I’m bringing. I’m bringing mine.”
Let’s just hope that his words don’t come back to bite him. Who do you have winning? You’ll have to tune in to keep score.
