The Philadelphia 76ers clinched their first playoff berth since 2012 on Sunday night. The celebration was short lived however as Joel Embiid collided with Markelle Fultz seriously injuring his face.
After the game, Embiid gave his own injury status leading many to believe that he’d be out for more than just a game or so. Thursday afternoon, the Sixers announced that Embiid would undergo surgery to repair an orbital fracture of his left eye.
Pending the results of surgery, Embiid could return to play in 2-4 weeks, per league source. First round obviously in some jeopardy.

This is a big blow to the 76ers playoff hopes, just when their momentum was gaining steam. Sixers have won eight straight games and currently stand at fourth in the East, which would be the highest finish since 2003. Rookie point guard Ben Simmons will have to carry the load from here on out until Embiid can get healthy. If Embid can come back before the playoffs, the Sixers can still challenge to extend their remarkable season, if not then “The Process” may still need some more time.
