Recently, Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher Josh Hader and Atlanta Braves Pitcher Sean Newcomb were both exposed for their racist tweets when they were 17 and 18 years old. Both have apologized since then with even Brewers fans giving Hader a standing ovation for his racism.
Nationals Pitcher Sean Doolittle is now taking a stand and calling out fellow MLB players to end racism and homophobia around the league. He took to Twitter to say that there’s no place for racism, insentive language and homophobia. He went on to say that all fans at MLB ballparks should feel welcome.
As far as the old homophobic tweets from those pitchers, Doolittle saluted members of the LGBT community for being true to themselves even when their identity has been used as an insult or pejorative.
