There are definitely double standards when it comes to dating.
The real question is those double standards valid? I mean that women and men are different people, so they are held to different standards.
Sometimes we make apples-to-apples comparisons when it is really apples to oranges or, in extreme cases, apples to not even other fruit.
An excellent example of this would be taking out the trash. That is just something men are expected to do if they live with a woman. It is a double standard, but one that is understood to be ok.
So, keep that in mind when listening to Brittney Renner.
Brittany Renner recently sat down on the Tonight’s Conversation podcast, where there was a discussion about the double standard of men dating women 10+ years younger, versus a woman dating a significantly younger man.
Brittany stated, “There’s a 12-year age gap, is what we’re talking about. So, if I’m 30 years old and I’m talking to your son that’s 12 years younger than me, what’s the problem?” This led to Randi Rossario Maples sharing her thoughts from the point of view of a mother of teenage sons. Randi told Renner that she wouldn’t want her sons to date women 12 years older or younger than them due to a difference in experiences and growth.
When Brittany pointed out that Jay-Z is 12 years older than Beyoncé, who he reportedly started dating when she was 19, Randi stated, “Immediately the conversation went to comparison, I hold both parties accountable.”
This all comes from when Renner was on the Jacksonville State campus and told people to “Hide Their Sons” and the fact her baby daddy PJ Washington is several years younger than her.
Do you agree with Renner?
