The people at TMZ recently found former WR Donte Stallworth at an airport and began asking him a variety of questions.
The video (posted below) ranges from thoughts on why he finally cut his dreads, to how he landed his new job as a beat writer on National Security for the Huffington Post.
He played in the NFL for 10 years before scoring a job as a reporter for the Huffington Post — but Donte Stallworth says he chose politics over sports because, “I wanna cover things that actually matter.”
Stallworth took a gig working the “national security” beat for the media outlet back in September … and says he’s really enjoying the experience so far.
“The whole introduction into that has been fairly interesting,” Donte says … “Being an ex-NFL player, a lot of people have been willing to help me.”
So, why not try to dip into the news world by taking on sports … a genre where he’s already got an edge over everyone else??
“I wanna cover things that actually matter. I love sports, but there’s a lot going on in the world.”
Those are some strong words from a dude who cashed a paycheck from an organization he believes “doesn’t actually matter” in the world.
No one will disagree with him, National Security is far more important than the NFL, and maybe this is just a way for him to feel like he’s giving back to this world. I’m just not sure if speaking ill of your former employers is the best approach…
Still, good for him for having the courage to say how he actually feels. It looks like leaving the NFL has liberated Donte, and that’s a beautiful thing.
