Bumble and the Los Angeles Clippers have come to an agreement on a deal where the dating application will be the sponsor on their jerseys.Bumble is a social and dating app that launched in December 2014. Bumble facilitates communication to its users who are looking to be in a heterosexual/homosexual interaction. The unique spin of this dating app, in heterosexual matches, the app permits only women to start a chat with their male matches, within 24 hrs or the match disappears.
The app was founded by Whitney Wolfe Herd who was co-fonder of the popular dating app Tinder. Wolfe Herd left Tinder due to a settlement with the company regarding sexual discrimination and harassment and soon after started Bumble.
The Los Angels Clippers current front office has the largest amount of women in leadership positions. In addition, Gillian Zucker is the only woman to hold the role of President in any NBA franchise.
“Never before has a major professional sports team partnered in this way with a female-driven brand like Bumble,” said Whitney Wolfe Herd, Bumble Founder and CEO. “It’s an honor to partner with an organization as progressive and compassionate as the Clippers. Like us, they know generating awareness for diversity and gender equality is critical to business success.”
Currently many teams have chosen to take advantage of the jersey sponsor opportunity. As for the Clippers this is a rather different partnership for a league and sport historically dominated by men. It’s another example of how the NBA appears to be progressing towards equality. The new logo that will be embedded into the jerseys is being called an “Empowerment Badge.” The logo will debut starting tonight’s game versus the New Orleans Pelicans.
