Here is the issue, Michael Floyd’s BAC (blood alcohol concentration) results came back at .21.
The legal limit is .08, so in layman terms he was hella drunk. There is a mandatory 45 day jail sentence for anyone convicted with that high of a blood alcohol level.
It is so high they call it Super Extreme DUI.
What does that have to do with the Cardinals who cut Floyd after the arrest? Floyd told the cops he did all of his drinking on the team plane and if that is the truth, the Cardinals could be in violation. Pro Football Talk explains why.
Technically prohibited by league rules, players nevertheless find a way to get alcohol on the team plane. The no-alcohol rule arises in part from a desire to avoid incidents like the one that occurred last week, when alcohol consumed while with the team may have contributed directly to the operation of a motor vehicle in an impaired state.
If/when Floyd resolves the legal case with any degree of responsibility (and it looks to be open and shut), he likely will face a two-game suspension from the league. In the interim, the Cardinals may be facing questions from the league regarding how players are getting alcohol on the plane — and why the team isn’t noticing that they’re drinking it, potentially in copious amounts.
Players drink on the plane all the time, but when you are drinking enough to be passed out in your car at Super Extreme levels there is going to be some questions.
Cardinals better have some good answers.
