So, Falcons wide receiver Mohamed Sanu is blaming the halftime performance, and by extension Lady Gaga for his team’s loss in Super Bowl 51. Wow, really? Sanu appeared on the NFL Network on Friday and discussed the extended halftime having an affect on the Falcons.
It is true, a usual halftime lasts about 15 minutes. At the Super Bowl the time between the last play of the second quarter and the first of the third is over an hour. But, the Falcons scored first in the second half to extend the lead to 28-3. It probably didn’t affect you as much as you think Mohamed. In the NFL appearance he said:
It definitely (affected us) because usually halftime is only like 15 minutes so when you’re not on the field for an hour, it’s like going to work out, having a great workout, sitting on the couch for an hour and then trying to work out again.
What really affected your team was some suspect play calling by then OC Kyle Shanahan. Like not running the ball in the second half when the team had been successful to that point. The Falcons also did a poor job of managing their energy. The team was hyped through two and a half quarters and then seemed to crash.
I get it, this loss will sting the Falcons for a while. They had the Patriots on the ropes and inexplicably managed to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.
