21-year-old Trenton Lewis of Little Rock, Arkansas has been making the sacrifices necessary to feed his 14-month-old Karmen. He has been walking 11 miles every day to his job at UPS.
Lewis has been making the walk to work for seven months. For this period, he hasn’t been making excuses or told anyone about it as he knows the work he has to put in to provide for his daughter.
Lewis told CNN:
“My pride is strong. Whatever she needs, I’m the person who is supposed to provide it for her.”
Lewis’ coworkers eventually found out about his situation and wanted to make his commute to work much easier. Fellow UPS employees all scheduled a meeting to be able to put in the money needed to buy Lewis a car. $2,000 was raised to get Lewis a 2006 Saturn Ion.
“I was emotionally moved. My heart just fell,” said Lewis after receiving the keys to the Saturn. “God always has something for you. I’m never going to forget this ever.”
Shortly after receiving the Saturn, he took his daughter Karmen to get lunch. Lewis’ story truly restores hope in humanity. Seeing people come together to improve the life of someone they care about should persuade others to uplift loved ones in their life that are struggling in some form.
