Occasionally a boxing match can take an unfortunate turn and this is one of those cases. South African female boxer Phindile Mwelase has passed away after being in a coma for two weeks following a KO loss to Liz Butler.
Here’s the official press release:
“Minister Fikile Mbalula has yet again learnt of the passing away of another promising sporting talent of this country.”
“Mwelase lost the battle and succumbed to her untimely death on 25th October,” the ministry said.
It’s extremely rare that a boxer passes away from injuries they sustained in a fight but when it does occur it touches the hearts of all fight fans. The best goes out to the family and camp of Phindile Mwelase in this troubling time.
