According to CBS Los Angeles, a Latino customer named Pedro received a coffee labeled “Beaner” on Tuesday at a Starbucks in La Cañada, California.
Pedro even told the Starbucks employees that his name was “Peter.”
When Pedro’s co-worker called the store to confront them about the incident, the manager claimed that the cashier “misheard” Pedro.
In a statement, Starbucks said:
This is not indicative of the type of experience we want our customers to have when they walk into our stores. We have apologized to the customer directly and are working to make things right.
Starbucks may not “want” its customers to have this type of experience; however, this is the experience that many of Starbucks’ minority customers are having lately.
It has not even been a month since the Starbucks in Philly called the Police on two black men just because they were waiting for a friend, prior to ordering any drinks.
In fact, Starbucks is scheduled to have a “racial bias training” where all of the Starbucks locations will close nation wide in order to address their issues in discrimination.
