Ex-Ohio State Running Back Maurice Clarett Getting Released From Prison Tomorrow

Former Buckeye star running back Maurice Clarett is expected to get the T.I. treatment tomorrow and be released to a halfway house after serving more than three years of a 7- year prison sentence, the result of pleading guilty to aggravated assault and carrying a concealed weapon in 2006.

Here were the details of the incident:

On Jan. 1, 2006, Clarett was charged with aggravated robbery after police said he flashed a gun at people outside a bar and robbed them of a cell phone. Then, on Aug. 9, Clarett was arrested after a chase when police said that they tried to stop him for a traffic violation.

O’Brien’s office said that Clarett had an AK-47 weapon with 35 live rounds in the magazine and three pistols in his vehicle. He was wearing a bulletproof vest. Investigators also found an open bottle of Grey Goose vodka and a hatchet. He was arrested about one mile away from the house of the robbery victims.

Franklin County Common Pleas Judge David Fais, who is scheduled to meet with Clarett tomorrow morning, is expected to grant the former Ohio State tailback an early release request, which would then send Clarett to a Columbus based halfway house that same day

10TV reports that  :

According to Franklin County Prosecutor Ron O’Brien, Clarett has behaved in prison so he would not protest the early release request.

Clarett was no slouch in college as he was the starting tailback of the 2002 undefeated Ohio State squad that went on to win the national championship. In his 11 games with the Buckeyes he posted 18 touchdowns on 222 carries and ran for 1,237 yards with a 5.6 yard average. Clarett went on to get drafted in the 3rd round by the Denver Broncos, but never got to take the field in the regular season.

Now who knows where Clarett will end up – if anywhere at all – or if  NFL football is even on his mind at this point, but if it is, I would suggest that the first thing he should do is get a Twitter account and retweet every single @TonyDungy tweet he can find and see what happens…and if that fails… there is always the BET reality show route.
