The explanation was sound by the referee, those are the asisnine NFL rules.
But here is why the Dolphins were screwed though, by the refs. Anytime there is a possible fumble the refs need to verify who recovered the ball, before they decide to take a smoke break.
It appears that that Dolphins recovered and it would have only taken a few seconds to separate the players, but instead they just wandered away from the play.
I understand they are human, so I have no problem with them missing the fumble intially it was a bang bang play, but there is no excuse not to follow through with the play.
Because of them being lazy, the Dolphins suffer a critical loss and that is something that can not be overlooked.
