Cannons fired from Kobe Bryant to Lebron James. We are being “PG” in the title because what Kobe really said rhymed with “cutting”.
This is Lebron James 8th year in the NBA and a lot of his peers and when I say peers, I am talking about Hall of Fame caliber players have jewelry.
Lebron’s legacy isn’t competing with the Gilbert Arenas’ of the world, he is in the league with the likes of Kobe, Duncan, Garnett and on his own team Dwyane Wade.
Doesn’t matter how many triple doubles he puts up. Doesn’t matter how many MVPs he wins. Doesn’t matter how much his hairline recedes. Until he gets that jewelry he is not in a position to say much to anyone.
The Heat crushed the Lakers on Christmas, but as I pointed out on Twitter, legacies aren’t made in the regular season they are made in the Playoffs.
Kobe’s five rings gives him Green Lantern like protection (to match his hideous shoes) to any possible trash talk Lebron could possibly have. The same way Jordan flashed his ring superiority in Barkley, Ewing, Drexler, Stockton and Malone faces for many years and even still today.
What comeback can Lebron have to that? Basically all he could say is “yo momma”. If Kobe never wins other title in his career his legacy still secure as a Top 10 player of all time. Lebron is chasing his legacy, it is the #1 reason I think he ended up with the Heat. His fear that if he stayed in Cleveland he would end up like a lot of superstars who stayed in one place the majority of their careers and couldn’t win a title.
Kobe was being a bit of a sore loser and it was a low blow, but when have serial killers ever worried about hurting someone’s feelings, especially when they are paper tissue thin.
Unlike in England, true Kings of the NBA have to take the crown, it isn’t just passed down to them. So while Lebron is the most talented and physically gifted player on the planet in the NBA Kingdom he is still a Prince.
