John Elway on Tim Tebow: “He’s Not a Good NFL Quarterback”

Here is what we know.

Tebow is going to work hard to prove his critics wrong, but he will always be limited to what he can do physically as a quarterback.  The question will always be will his determination to win, be enough to overcome his physical limitations?

There are only so many screen passes and quarterback draws you can put in your offense.  If you can’t stretch the field you can’t operate long term as a viable starting quarterback in the NFL.

Personally I rather have Tebow than a lot of quarterbacks in the league, because dedication is important to the quarterback position, but I don’t know how successful he can be long term.  John Elway has the same questions.

The new executive V.P. of football operations in Denver needs to hire a head coach and, ultimately, the team needs to decide on a strategy for dealing with the franchise’s second first-round pick in 2010.  For now, the news for Tebow isn’t good.

“I don’t think Tim Tebow is a good NFL quarterback at this time,” Elway told Peter King of NBC and Sports Illustrated.

There is speculation that Tebow could be traded, because if he isn’t your long term solution no need to keep him on the team.

Either give him a fair shot to be the starter or let him go somewhere that he can.
