After the story broke that the Feds were searching Birdman’s home for Kiddie porn (Nuggets Chris “Birdman” Andersen Being Investigated for Child Pornography) it didn’t look like it would effect him participating in the game against the Lakers this evening.
Things have changed in the last few hours.
The Nuggets don’t want him no where near the team even when they are on the brink of elimination.
Denver Nuggets center Christopher “Birdman” Andersen has been “excused indefinitely” from team activities while Douglas County sheriff’s detectives investigate him for unknown Internet crimes against children, the team announced this afternoon.
Authorities searched Andersen’s Larkspur home this morning and seized property. Andersen, 33, has not been arrested or charged with a crime.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Deborah Sherman said the investigation remains open and declined to provide details about what items deputies took or any specific allegations against Andersen.
In Colorado, Internet crimes against children can include anything from exchanging pornographic images of kids to using chatrooms to lure children for sexual purposes.
Frequently, police seize computers, data storage devices and other electronics in these types of investigations.
Proving who used the device can be tricky if multiple people have access to it. Public records suggest one other person — a 30-year-old woman — may live at the Larkspur home.
Until someone is arrested, Birdman still gets the benefit of the doubt.
You don’t want to jump to conclusions, but it doesn’t look good for Birdman. It also may spell the end of his NBA career. He had been buried on the Nuggets bench and if any of these accusations are true no team will touch him.
