The Jets’ season has played out like the perfect script for a Tim Tebow sequel, but it sounds like Tebow’s Jet teammates and potential co-stars want nothing to do with the project. Several Jets players and insiders shared their candid thoughts on the possibility of Tim Tebow taking over for starter Mark Sanchez via the New York Daily News:
“He’s terrible,” a defensive starter told the Daily News.
“It’s not even close,” (Matt) Slauson said. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.”
“Hell, no!” another starter said. “You got to keep defenses honest. You just can’t line up in the Wildcat all the time. That won’t work.”
There is no question that Mark Sanchez is struggling mightily this year, but I’d have to agree that a quarterback change is not the answer. The Jets’ main issue is not quarterback, but it’s their lack of offensive playmakers. Even with a healthy Santonio Holmes, this was not a sexy offense at all. Seriously, would you have picked the Jets’ offense in a game of Madden at the beginning of the season? Tim Tebow’s magical debut last year would not have been possible without skill position talent like Demaryius Thomas and Willis McGahee. Until the Jets get some real talent (and speed!) for Sanchez on offense, they will struggle to score consistently.
