Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton has been catching flak all year for his attitude, disposition, and win/loss record.
Cam may now catch some flak for something he really didn’t have anything to do with.
The Charlotte Observer is reporting that West Mecklenburg High School quarterback Jalan McClendon was ejected from a first round playoff because he mocked Cam Newton’s Superman celebration after scoring a touchdown.
NCHSAA supervisor of officials Mark Dreibelbis told the Observer, why McClendon was ejected.
“Officials did not eject McClendon for taunting, which would have triggered a two-game suspension. Dreibelbis said McClendon was disqualified for an unsportsmanlike act, which just meant he had to sit out the remainder of the game.”
West Mecklenburg head coach Jeff Caldwell said he was “elated, his quarterback wasn’t suspended.”
“It’s a good learning experience for him,” Caldwell said of McClendon. “With him being in the position he’s in, he should know better. He’s a young kid. My kids have never been in a situation like this before. I’m just happy for Jalan and that it came out all right.
“I’m glad he wasn’t severely punished for something where he was just having fun. He’s not the taunting type. At Tennessee (team camp) this summer, they were always asking ‘Why don’t you get excited?’”
the 6’4, 194 pound Jr has received scholarship offers from Duke, North Carolina, and Wake Forrest.
He is now receiving interest from South Carolina and Tennessee.
