Report: Nets Prepare Trade Offer For Dwight Howard Using T-Wolves & Kevin Love as Bait

Right now, this should be considered just a rumor, but there are a couple of things that should be noted before you completely dismiss it.

Dwight for whatever reason still has a thing for Brooklyn, that is why he has never come out and said 100% he will re-sign with Lakers.

Secondly, Kevin Love would love to play in LA and isn’t happy in Minnesota.  With that being said this would be very complicated to pull off, but here are the parameters of the trade as laid out by Jarrod Rudolph/RealGM.

The Brooklyn Nets are preparing to make another run at Dwight Howard, according to a source.

Nets general manager Billy King has closely monitored the struggling Lakers and quietly searched for a third team with an attractive piece that would help facilitate a trade that would deliver Howard to the Nets, according to sources.

King, according to sources, was confident that he had a trade proposal that was a perfect fit for all teams involved.

According to sources, King was planning to contact the Minnesota Timberwolves in order to gauge their interest in a three-team trade that would send Kevin Love to the Lakers, Brook Lopez to the Timberwolves and Dwight Howard to the Nets. Other small pieces would need to be included, but the proposed trade was thought to be intriguing enough to start conversations in the Lakers front office that would force them to deal with Howard earlier than planned.

The chances of this happening are slim.  Not exactly slim to none, but slim.  I believe the Lakers want Dwight Howard long term because they know Kobe Bryant can’t play forever.

Complicating things is Kevin Love is injured and the Lakers are trying to make a playoff run.  Also, what is the benefit for the Timberwolves besides helping the Nets and Lakers get better (or worse depending on how you feel about Dwight Howard)?

Something to keep an eye on, but I wouldn’t get too excited or disappointed if I was a Lakers fan.
