Atlanta Hawks forward Josh Smith could be suiting up for another team for the first time in his NBA career soon. League sources have informed Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports that the “growing expectation” in league circles is that the Hawks will trade Smith before the NBA’s trade deadline in mid-February.
This isn’t the first time that Smith has been rumored to be on the trade block in Atlanta, but he is in the last year of his contract this time and will certainly be in demand on the market. First-year Hawks general manager Danny Ferry quickly showed that he wasn’t afraid to shake things up in Atlanta when he traded Joe Johnson and Marvin Williams, and if he moves Smith, then Hawks center/forward Al Horford will be the only remaining member of the core group that led the Hawks to playoffs in each of the last five seasons.
