UFC President Dana White knew all too well what he was doing by even throwing out the words that Silva called him directly after UFC 159’s Jones vs Sonnen beating. He was stirring the pot for a potential superfight vs Silva and Jones.
In the post fight presser White wasted no time throwing that gem out there to get the anticipatory juices flowing for a possible Silva vs Jones bout.
Silva the UFC middleweight champ reportedly called White immediately after Jones easily took down Sonnen and requested a superfight of some sort. White wouldn’t disclose if it was Jones or Georges St. Pierre he wanted to take on.
After dropping that nuclear bomb White immediately tried to dash away from the topic and instead moved on to the upcoming bout Silva has vs Chris Weidman at UFC 162 in Vegas. White deflected with the following:
“It’s not important,…It doesn’t matter who he wants to fight. He’s got to fight Weidman first. If he doesn’t beat Weidman, what difference does it make? The fight isn’t even real. Who he wants to fight doesn’t matter. He better want to fight Weidman right now.”
Classic move by the always savvy White, who knows just what buttons to press to get folks to start talking. Silva remains undefeated in three light heavyweight matches in the UFC so most likely Silva’s words to White were in reference to Jones.
Superfight in the making?
