If Miami Heat President Pat Riley is able to keep this team together for a decade, that wont be good for anyone, except them of course.
Since Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh, joined forces in Miami two seasons ago, the Heat have basically been unstoppable. In their first year they made it to the NBA Finals in spite of chemistry issues and then last season they disposed of a very formidable Oklahoma City Thunder team in the NBA Finals.
Riley and the Heat front office have done a masterful job of retooling the team by bringing in veterans Ray Allen, Rashard Lewis, and Chris Andersen to complement their prized assets.
And in a story via Shandel Richardson of the Sun Sentinel, the Heat president intends to keep restocking his roster while keeping the core together for a few more years.
“I want to keep bringing in pieces that are going to complement them and hope we can have one of those 10-year rides,” Riley said. “You think about every team, the Celtics in the 60s, the Lakers in the 80s, the Bulls (in the 90s) and then again the Spurs, those guys have been together for eight, nine, 10 years. If we can keep this group together for eight, nine, 10 years, we’re all going to have some fun. Don’t ever take it for granted. This is a special time.”
“The Big Three” of the Heat become free agents after next season and the recently negotiated collective bargaining agreement will make keeping them together very difficult task, but if they’re able to bring in good players at a bargain rate like they have done the past few seasons, then it can be done.
