According to NHL.com, Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin, beat out rival Sidney Crosby to win his third Hart Trophy, an award given to the league’s most valuable player.
Ovechkin beat out Crosby and John Tavares of the New York Islanders to take home his third Hart Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player as decided by the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association. Ovechkin became one of 10 players in the history of the award to win it more than two times.
Ovechkin finished the season with a league-leading 32 goals and 24 assists, after starting the lockout-shortened season off slowly. The Capitals made it to the postseason but were eliminated in the first round by the New York Rangers.
