Being the head coach of one of the nation’s hottest football programs certainly comes with it’s perks. Baylor’s Art Briles has added three years to the 8 year deal he signed last year, putting him under contract until 2023:
Baylor's board of regents today extended football coach Art Briles' contract through 2023, when he will be 68.

Here is the statement from their AD:
“Art Briles and Baylor are a wonderful fit,” Baylor athletic director Ian McCaw said. “We are grateful for his long-term commitment and desire to lead Baylor football forward for many years to come. Baylor Nation is indebted to Coach Briles for his vision, passion and dedication to rebuilding Baylor football and turning it into a destination job.”
At a rumored 4 million per year (Baylor is private so they don’t release salary figures) his salary is in line with the top tier coaches in the conference. The two big things here are that with Briles being a hot candidate after this season, I’m sure the buyout will be significant especially with Texas lurking in the shadows. Second, this tells me that Baylor has every intention to have Briles running the show when they open a brand new stadium in 2014.
Good move by Baylor.
