Mike Woodson might want to start getting worried.
An injury list that seems to grow daily, the possible departure of Carmelo Anthony in the off-season, and an unstable owner should make Mike Woodson very nervous.
According to ESPN.com, during a recent meeting with the coaching staff and some team executives, James Dolan told those around him that he believes the Knicks have enough talent to win a title and that he expects them to do so this season.
The wheels seem ready to fall off, but Woodson says “he’s not going to coach looking over his shoulder, and he’s not worried about job security.”
“I have been at this thing 30 years,” Woodson said in an interview on ESPN New York 98.7 radio. “And the one thing I never and will never do is look over my shoulder. I won’t do that. I got too much pride for that. I think what we have done here for the last few years, we made some major ground and some major steps.
“But this is a different year. That team that played and won 54 games is not here. It is my job as a coach to get this team to gel and play at a high level. If I got to always look over my shoulders, then I can’t do my job, so that is why I never do that. Try to look ahead, that is what is staring at me right now.”
There’s absolutely no way Woodson can survive what’s about to happen to him. An already aging roster got older with the addition of Metta World Peace.
Tyson Chandler will miss a month and add to the growing list of front court players battling injuries. Chandler, Kenyon Martin, Amare’ Stoudemire, and Andrea Bargnani have all missed time so far.
