As the search for the next coach at Texas goes into its third week, the school is said to have narrowed down the list of coaches they are going after. With new AD Steve Patterson leading the search, they are said to be looking at Baylor’s Art Briles, Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher, Louisville’s Charlie Strong, and Vanderbilt’s James Franklin. Now a source close to Art Briles says that he would take the Texas job if it is offered to him.
Briles just signed a new, 10-year contract at Baylor that includes a $4 million buyout so this isn’t a case of a coach trying to get more money out of his current gig. We are still at the anonymous source stage of this Texas coaching search so take this with a grain of salt.
However, Briles would be a tremendous fit for Texas since would energize the program and has shown the ability to recruit in Texas while building Baylor into an actual contender.
