The Yankees have formally introduced their $155-million man.
The Japanese pitching star donned the pinstripes before a large crowd on Tuesday, as he was formally introduced to the team and the city of New York.
The press conference had the largest turnout since the Hideki Matsui signing back in 2003 with 200 present to see the coy Tanaka introduce himself to the country.
The presser began with Tanaka speaking to the crowd in English simply stating:
“Hello, my name is Masahiro Tanaka. I’m very happy to be a Yankee.”
After which he nervously took a bow as cameras continued flashing wildly.
Tanaka comes to the Majors boasting a 1.27 ERA and a perfect 24-0 record, a lot of expectations are already on his shoulders as he comes to a Yankee team that’s far from vintage.
