The next head coach of the Minnesota Timberwolves will accept the job knowing full well that his best player, Kevin Love, most likely won’t finish the 2014 season in Minneapolis.
According to a Star Tribune report, Head Coach Rick Adelman is gone
The Timberwolves will need someone to coach their basketball team and try to convince Love to stay around. Marc J. Spears of Yahoo Sports is reporting that Minnesota has a short list of potential candidates already prepared.
Assuming Rick Adelman leaves, a source said Minnesota’s coaching wish list includes Tom Izzo, Fred Hoiberg and Stan Van Gundy.
Timberwolves president Flip Saunders and Tom Izzo are friends, but if Izzo wouldn’t even sniff the Pistons offer, why would entertain the T’Wolves.
Hoiberg previously worked in the Timberwolves’ front office, so I see the interest, but he’s building his own powerhouse at Iowa State.
That leaves Van Gundy.
He’s well-known for wearing thin with players, but the guy can coach. The question is does Stan Van Gundy want to coach badly enough to accept an offer from Minnesota?
