Rutgers Promised Eric LeGrand Can Speak at Commencement, Then Changed Their Mind

NFL: New York Giants at New York Jets

Eric LeGrand has been an inspirational figure for his ongoing recovery from a 2010 on field injury where he he left paralyzed from the neck down while playing at Rutgers. LeGrand says that he was slated to be the school’s commencement speaker after Condoleezza Rice backed out but then the school pulled the rug out from under him with no explanation:

“I just want an explanation. I wish somebody would have given me a call tonight and explained to me why. Then I can understand, but don’t just leave me hanging.”

LeGrand says that all the school told them was they did this for “political reasons.” Rutgers can’t seem to get out of it’s own way lately with blunder after blunder so just add this onto the pile. This truly is a lose all around issue for the school though who know gets more (deserved) bad press and they anger someone who has been a good spokesman for the University.

I hope they do the right thing and at least apologize and give the man a real explanation.
