When it was reported that Joel Embiid required foot surgery that would cause him to miss 4-6 months, the frenzy was like none other. Embiid was projected to be the #1 pick in the draft and with injuries being announced left and right, the star said he started doubting his place in the draft.
“I mean I thought I was going to drop to the second round. I was kind of surprised they took me at three,” Embiid told Gary Bedore of the Lawrence Journal-World on Friday.
“People were talking everywhere, on social media. I bought into that,” Embiid added.
Despite all the social media rumors, no reputable mock draft had Embiid dropping out of the top 10. Embiid decided to decline his invitation to the draft and watched in LA with his parents and agent Arn Tellum instead. Needless to say, Embiid didn’t drop out of the top 5 and wasn’t take 3rd by the 76ers. It just goes to show you that Twitter journalists should never be trusted.
