Cardinals LB John Abraham has notably been absence from the first three days of training camp, and it seems that the reason why is because Abraham was arrested for DUI last month in Dekalb County.
Arrest reports in DeKalb County showed that John Antonio Abraham, 36, was detained, questioned and later charged with multiple counts, including DUI, on June 29.
A spokesperson for the Cardinals had acknowledged that the team was aware of the arrest but did not go into further detail about the situation. Cardinals GM Steve Keim seemed very nonchalant to the situation when he was a guest on a local Arizona sports radio show.
“I’m not concerned at all,” he said on Arizona Sports 620 during the Doug and Wolf show. “He’ll be back at some point here.”
Abraham was arrested and charged with DUI in 2003 when he played for the Jets. He crashed his SUV into a fire hydrant and light pole during, but was able to plead guilty to avoid any time in jail. Abraham swore that he would not put himself into that situation again to AZ Central last August.
“I’m not going through that stuff again. It’s a bigger headache than it’s worth. I got mine one time, and one time is enough. It’s brought more pain than it did anything else. That one night of partying wasn’t worth all the things I had to go through.”
No statement on the situation had been made by Abraham, but this doesn’t look too good for him. Abraham could be facing a fine and/or suspension from the NFL if found guilty.
