ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith is reporting that the New York Knicks and Philadelphia 76ers have had initial discussions centered around a trade that would send Amar’e Stoudemire and Iman Shumpert to Philly to help clear cap space.
Speaking on First Take, Smith said the Knicks would do the deal to clear cap space.
The move would clear roughly $25 million in cap space for the Knicks, and would potentially allow them to chase another prime free agent.
It would rid the Knicks of Stoudemire’s deal, but losing Shumpert would be tough.
The 76ers are involved in any team trying to dump massive salaries, since they have around $30 million in cap space this offseason.
