Former University of Louisville football player Nate Harris has been charged with a vicious three day string of armed robberies of Louisville hotels and a dry cleaner according to the Courier-Journal.

Harris, who was signed with Louisville, after a prior robbery conviction,  was a star headed to Miami before the arrest in ’06.

Harris was arrested by Louisville Metro police Sunday morning and charged in the robbery of four hotels – two of them twice.

Harris was a heralded recruit as a linebacker running in high school in Miami and accepted a scholarship offer to the University of Miami, but the school withdrew it after he admitted in court in 2002 that he’d served as a lookout in an armed robbery during which he and two others used a gun to rob a man of a necklace, bracelet and ring on a street corner in the Liberty City area of Miami.

When he was signed at U of L after playing at Dodge City Community College in Kansas, he told The Courier-Journal: “I know people are saying, ‘Will he do it again?’ I know there’s a question mark on me. But I’ve changed my life around. The past is in the past.”

Harris was arrested at 1:55 a.m. Sunday and charged with a series of robberies that began on Christmas Day when he allegedly entered the Red Roof Inn, 9330 Blairwood Road, presented a note indicating he was armed and demanded cash.

Harris reportedly threatened to shoot several people during his three day crime spree.
