Rex Ryan spent Black Monday relaxing and enjoying his son and the Clemson Tigers play in a bowl game. Ryan wasn’t worried at all about being fired, because he has plenty of options. Rex has been mentioned as a candidate for the jobs in Atlanta, San Francisco and Chicago so far.
According to Manish Mehta of the NY Daily News, Ryan is meeting with ESPN executives on Tuesday to discuss a possible role as an analyst if he cannot land another head coaching gig in 2015.
Rex Ryan might be headed to the Worldwide Leader soon enough.
The Daily News has learned that the swashbuckling former Jets head coach will meet with ESPN executives Tuesday to discuss a possible role with the network in case he doesn’t land another head coaching job.
Ryan and his wife flew to Orlando later in the day to watch their son, Seth, suit up for Clemson’s win in the Russell Athletic Bowl.
Ryan has been under the impression for some time that he would have opportunities to land a TV job in the absence of another head coaching opportunity. He has no interest in becoming a defensive coordinator in 2015.
ESPN might not be the only network pursuing him. The Jets would still owe Ryan a few million dollars if he didn’t get another coaching gig in 2015.
I believe Rex wants to coach, and should have his choice of jobs, but his charisma and football knowledge would also make him a hit on television as well.
