Clint Trickett will not take another snap for the the West Virginia Mountaineers and will hang up the cleats due to multiple concussions. Concussions are not to ever be taken lightly, so it is definitely in Trickett’s best interest to call it quits now before things get worse.
West Virginia quarterback Clint Trickett will not play in Monday’s Liberty Bowl against Texas A&M and will be forced to retire from football due to multiple concussions, Trickett said Friday.
Dana Holgorsen confirmed that Trickett has not been medically cleared to play. Sophomore Skyler Howard will start after making four appearances during the regular season, throwing for five touchdowns without an interception.
Trickett’s concussion history is unsettling for me, especially since he went on record as saying he hid some of them from trainers.
Trickett just told us he had 5 concussions in 14 months, hiding 2 from trainers. Will retire from football and begin coaching.

Trickett made numerous trips to UPMC but couldn't pass protocols. "In the career I'm entering I probably need a few brain cells."

Trickett on hiding concussions: "In fairness to our trainers, that's on me." Says they would've held him out had they seen any indicators.

Trickett hiding concussions from trainers is something that could have ended very badly for him. I understand guys not wanting to be held out and wanting to play, but that kind of thing is very unsafe. I’m just something more serious didn’t happen after he withheld information like that. In that situation, you have to save the player from himself.
