Carmelo Anthony played a total of 30 minutes in the All-Star game despite being injured but never seem to get into a rhythm. Melo missed several games during the season before he decided to shut it down last week after the All-Star a break. His surgery was successful and and it was determined that he played most of the season with a partial tear of his left patellar tendon.
The procedure Melo had on Thursday was to clean out the calcium deposits that formed within the tear so it could be repaired. If Melo had suffered a full tear or rupture of the tendon, he would not have been able to play with that injury.
Phil Jackson, President of the Knicks, believes there is a four-to-six month timetable before Melo can participate in contact scrimmages.
