The University of Maryland Men’s basketball program may have some cheerful news in what has been a bad week for the program after being knocked out by West Virginia in the round of 32 of the NCAA tournament. Reports are coming out of College Park that the sensational freshman PG will be returning for at least one more year. Trimble was one of the main catalysts in the revitalization of the Terps basketball program under head coach Mark Turgeon. It had been 5 years since the Terps last made the NCAA tournament under a Greives Vasquez led team that was coached by Hall-of-Famer, Gary Williams. Trimble was the first McDonalds All-American prospect to attend Maryland since Mike Jones (Who?), and he did his best to live up to that hype.
Trimble averaged 16.2 points per game and finished as a first team All-Big Ten selection. Many had feared that with so much success, that Trimble would bolt for the NBA draft, but with it being such a deep PG class, it definitely behooves him to come back for one more year and refine his game some more. The most direct comparison that comes to mind when watching Trimble is former University of Michigan PG Trey Burke, who also played 2 NCAA seasons. Burke improved drastically from his freshman to Sophomore seasons and that allowed him to rise his draft stock to become a lottery pick for the Utah Jazz.
Per @Jeff_Ermann, freshman star Melo Trimble is planning on returning for his sophomore yr http://t.co/A79cDEm4dO pic.twitter.com/9c8MvlbQLg
