The Dallas Cowboys made a big splash by moved up from the 14 pick to the 6 pick in the 2012 draft to make ex-LSU ballhawking corner Morris Claiborne a Cowboy. Claiborne was projected as the best corner in his draft class but he has left Cowboys’ fans and management wanting more. Claiborne was had issues staying on the field since being drafted but his chances to prove his worth maybe coming to an end.
According to Brandon George, Dallas Cowboys beat writer, Claiborne’s days in Dallas maybe numbered.
“Claiborne has one more year left on his rookie contract. The Cowboys don’t plan to pick up his fifth year option on his rookie deal in May. So that gives Claiborne one more season to state his case to remain on the roster. If Claiborne doesn’t emerge this season, you can bet that he won’t be around in 2016.”
Claiborne was recovering from an injured wrist when he was drafted forcing him to miss camp and all organized team activities which might have been a look into his future. Claiborne has dealt with injuries each of his 3 season in the NFL. His 2013 season was slowed by a sprained knee, a dislocated left shoulder and hamstring issues. Entering into the 2014 season, Claiborne was dealing with knee tendonitis and an AC joint separation. After playing well in the first two games of the season, Claiborne was bench due to team Orlando Scandrick’s return from suspension. Just 5 days after being benched, Claiborne suffered a non-contact torn left patellar tendon. He is still recovering from his latest injury and it is not known if he will be ready to start the upcoming season.
