The Tampa Bay Times reported Monday that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers would not be exercising the 5th year option on RB Doug Martin.
A former 1st round draft pick in 2012, Martin had an outstanding rookie year, running for 1,454 yards on 319 attempts, 49 receptions and 11 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl as a rookie for the NFC. After year one however, the Buccaneers use of Martin greatly declined. Martin had 261 attempts in the last two seasons, and only gained 950 yards and just 3 touchdowns.
Martin was known his rookie season as the Muscle Hamster for his ability to break tackles, however injury diminished his use.
Martin is only 26 years old, and is infamously apart of the worst running back 1st round class in the last 10 years. The class included Trent Richardson and David Wilson.
