Via AJC:
The Clark Atlanta University student who disappeared on her way to graduation Monday was found in Illinois, officials said.
DeKalb County police spokesman Capt. S.R. Fore told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Thursday afternoon that Alexis Jones-Rhodes had been located in Illinois and was safe. Fore also said no criminal activity was involved.
No further information was immediately available.
Jones-Rhodes left her family’s Decatur-area home early Monday morning with her cap and gown and was supposed to be heading to her graduation from Clark Atlanta University. Her family became worried when she never walked across the stage.
The school confirmed that there was no record of Jones-Rhodes signing in for the commencement exercises. The AJC confirmed Wednesday that, while Jones-Rhodes was enrolled for the spring 2015 semester at Clark Atlanta, she was not eligible for graduation.
Wow. She really faked her own disappearance to try to get away with the fact that she wasn’t graduating, as her entire family thought she was. That was a pretty selfish act. She had all of Atlanta looking for her and her friends and family on the news crying out for answers. It’s always better to just tell the truth. Covering things up always makes it worse.
