Cena Makes Rusev Quit… Maybe
The second-best match of the night was the rubber match between John Cena and Rusev for the United States title. The only way to win this match was by making their opponent say “I Quit” which well, getting Cena or Rusev to quit is pretty much impossible.
Both men take turns beating the absolute hell out of each other. Rusev takes control and brings the steps into the ring, throwing Cena into them twice and forcing the ref to ask him if he quits. Cena being Cena, of course he doesn’t quit. So Rusev sets the stairs up in the middle of the ring and slams Cena onto them.

Cena of course doesn’t quit because Cena and Rusev can’t believe it. He tries to take control again but Cena has already recovered at superhuman levels and he counters by hitting Rusev with an Attitude Adjustment onto to the steel steps.

Rusev refuses to quit and now we’re outside of the ring. Cena hits a spear on Rusev through the barricade and now we’ve spilled out into the crowd. Cena starts to beat Rusev with everything from a television to a laptop but the Bulgarian Brute refuses to quit. Cena sets up a table but Rusev counters and throws Cena through it.
Rusev is now looking for a way to make Cena quit and he finds the pyro by the stage, deciding he wants to put Cena through it. Cena counters a huge kick from Rusev, picks the challenger up and…

Attitude Adjustment onto the pyro. Despite (we assume) being burned half to death, Rusev refuses to quit. Cena picks up a steel barricade and beats Rusev with it but the Bulgarian counters and suplexes Cena through the barricade before rolling the champ back into the ring. Rusev locks in the Accolade but Cena tries to fight out of it. Rusev refuses to break the hold and Cena passes out in the center of the ring.
Rusev begins to celebrate like he won, but the ref informs him that Cena has to quit and he can’t because he’s unconscious. Real convenient John. Rusev takes the top rope off of a turnbuckle, splashes Cena with water to wake him up and goes for the Accolade again with the aid of the rope.
Not happening.
Cena is back again thanks to his Wolverine-like recovery skills and he coutners with a top-rope assisted STF on Rusev. The challenger starts mumbling in Bulgarian as the ref asks if he wants to quit and Lana grabs the mic and yells that Rusev says he quits!
Apparently a translator is enough because the ref calls for the bell and gives Cena the win. Good finish by WWE as Rusev never actually said the words “I Quit” and still looks strong despite the loss.
