WWE Payback Recap: The Future Is Now

The New Day Survives Against the Brass Ring Club – Awesome two out of three falls match between the tag champs and everyone’s favorite tag team. Kidd and Cesaro take control early, hitting a dropkick into the Giant Swing for a quick fall and the challengers are up 1-0.

Kofi and Big E then begin to wear Kidd down, stopping him from tagging Cesaro in for an extended period of time. Kofi goes for a pin but Cesaro breaks it up, so Big E spears him out of the ring and off the apron into the barricade. A blind tag between Kofi and Big E allows them to hit a Big Ending on Kidd for the second fall and it’s all tied up.

Kidd is finally able to tag Cesaro in and he wastes little time uppercutting everyone, closing with this unbelievably vicious uppercut to Kofi.

Cesaro tags Kidd back in and things begin to break down. The ref becomes distracted by Big E and Xavier Woods runs into the ring and rolls Kidd up for the 1-2-3 and the win for the champs.

The ending to this match was absolutely terrible. New Day wins because Woods can make that pin and the ref won’t notice because all the black wrestlers look alike? What the hell was that WWE? Seriously, pathetic.

Sheamus Destroys Dolph Ziggler – Physical match between two guys who have become bitter rivals. Ziggler took control early, dropping Sheamus in the corner and making him kiss his arse as payback for last month.

Unfortunately for the show-off, this just angered Sheamus. From that point on the Celtic Warrior dominated the match,

Sheamus hit a massive powerbomb on Ziggler for a near-fall before going for a powerslam and then hitting White Noise. The Celtic Warrior decides that he wants Dolph to suffer so he locks in a Cloverleaf but Ziggler makes it to the ropes for a break. Ziggler hits a big headbutt and superkick, but he’s busted open pretty badly and that opens the door for Sheamus to win it with a Brogue Kick.

Your Weekly Reminder that Neville is Awesome – Bad News Barrett (or are we calling him King Barrett now?) took on fast-rising star Neville in a pretty good match. Neville had a counter for everything Barrett threw at him, so the King eventually decided to just get himself counted out.

Neville looks on in disgust after winning in such fashion, and Barrett hits the ring to attack him from behind. Barrett hits a Bull Hammer then throws Neville out of the ring before putting on his robe and crown to celebrate. Not one to quit, Neville gets back into the ring for some more. Barrett tries to take him out with his scepter, but Neville counters with a german suplex and then the prettiest move in all of WWE.

This kid is awesome.

The Meta Powers Are Here – Forget the fact that the ‘Meta Powers’ Curtis Axelmania and Damien Macho Mandow lost to the Ascension, which is horrendous. Just look at how they entered the arena.

Best. Tag. Team. Ever.

The match also featured Axel ‘Hulking Up’ and Mandow using some classic Macho Man moves. I love this ridiculous storyline so much.

Bray Wyatt Takes Down the Big Guy – Physical match between Ryback and Bray Wyatt that saw both men try to tear each other apart. Things took a turn when Wyatt hit a diving senton splash off the apron onto Ryback on the outside and it looked like the Big Guy was legitimately injured in the spot.

Despite the rib injury, Ryback beats the count and takes control by powerbombing Wyatt and then hitting a splash off the top rope. That’s right, Ryback splash off the top rope. Ryback tries to hit a Shell-Shocked on Wyatt but the Eater of Worlds undoes the turnbuckle while on the Big Guy’s shoulders. Wyatt throws Ryback ribs-first into the turnbuckle then hits a Sister Abigail for the 1-2-3.

R-Truth Defeats Stardust Because Why Not? – The other pre-show match featured R-Truth and Stardust in a bout nobody cared for. Truth picked up the win and it’s pretty depressing that Cody Rhodes has fallen this far down the card. We need to get rid of Stardust and give Rhodes the push he deserves, ASAP.

Naomi & Tamina Dismantle the Bellas – Tamina absolutely dominated this match, looking like the physical freak that she is. The ending saw Tamina throw Brie into the barricade, which of course made Nikki sad and distracted, so Naomi took advantage and picks up the win.
