Oscar De La Hoya has built up a lot of buzz around a possible 2016 comeback but he seems to want a fight with GGG more than a rematch against Floyd Mayweather.
He recently told BoxingScene.com that he wasn’t surprised that Mayweather would want to fight him next May.
Of course [I’m not shocked], because he has no one else to fight. Obviously he needs me more than I need him. If you think about it, it’s obviously the easy way out. He want’s the easy way out as usual.
When you read further into this statement it seems as though Oscar is downplaying his skills. He seems to think that there are better opponents for Floyd, which is true, but it’s not ideal for a man planning a comeback to think along those lines.
Oscar’s comeback seems more like a publicity stunt to drum up interest in the fights that he is promoting and less like a serious return to the ring.
