It didn’t take Dana White long to shoot down the statements made by Tito Ortiz regarding Cyborg being offered the December 5th fight against Ronda Rousey.
Dana told Yahoo! Sports’ that everything Ortiz spoke about was a lie:
“That was a complete lie,” White said. “It’s 100 percent a lie. First of all, the UFC doesn’t even talk to Tito Ortiz, so let’s start there. But we haven’t offered any fight to [Justino]. Tito Ortiz is just making this [expletive] up. In no way, shape or form did we offer her a fight against Ronda at Cowboys Stadium. Completely untrue.”
Dana went on to explain why reports like these are so dangerous:
“The problem is, this kind of thing gets out there and picks up momentum when there is no truth to it,” White said. “And it was just something that he decided to make up. But it’s not true.”
It looks like Ortiz & Cyborg are trying to use the Manny Pacquio system of acquiring a fight, talk about the champion publicly until the fans demand the fight.
Everyone around the UFC has known that Dana White planned on Meisha Tate receiving another title shot in December and that no one would jump her. If a Cyborg fight was to occur it’d have to happen early next summer and Cyborg would have to prove that she could cut down to 135lbs in Invicta.
The terms have been made quite simple by Dana White and it’s up to Cyborg to prove she can make the weight.
Still Cyborg maintains that her camp has had negotiations with the UFC:
Really? @danawhite UFC not contacted my manager after the fight Ronda. ???? @RondaRousey @ufc
