A man has lost his life after trying to retrieve his cell phone after he dropped it while riding on a roller coaster.
Here are the details via The Daily Mail:
Police say James A. Young had just finished riding the Raptor on Thursday and jumped over a fence to retrieve something he dropped during the 57 mph ride.
The Erie County coroner says it was his cellphone.
Sandusky police say Young was struck by the ride or someone on it. No one else was hurt.
Authorities said that, per policy, a postmortem test would be conducted to determine if Young was under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The park confirms the death in a statement saying ‘a guest entered a restricted, fenced area of Raptor and was struck by the ride.’ It says its ‘thoughts and prayers go out to the family.’
It’s unfortunate that this young man had to lose his life, but amusement parks do have areas fenced off for a reason. He entered a restricted area for a phone that he probably wasn’t supposed to have on him when he got on the ride in the first place. It’s easier to just follow the rules sometimes.
