Two women were arrested for shoplifting after telling police that they thought it was ‘Free holiday’ not ‘Tax Free Holiday’.
Here are the details via AJC:
On Friday afternoon, the women were at the Von Maur store at Perimeter Mall, which was full of back-to-school shoppers and those wanting to take advantage of Georgia’s Tax Free Holiday.
“Tax Free Holiday?” the suspects asked, seemingly shocked, according to Dunwoody police.
“We thought it was ‘Free Holiday,’” the alleged shoplifters claimed — as in take what you want without paying for it, according to police.
Simone Norris, 26, and Brittany Yawn, 23, both of Temple, helped themselves to several items, including two $79 Ralph Lauren shirts, two $148 jackets, two pairs of Nike pants with $65 price tags, and two pairs of $105 jeans, the police report states.
Tax Free weekend has been around for the longest so I’m not really sure how these two ladies could’ve mistaken it for a weekend to shop for free. That was a good try though.
