Jamal Crawford of the Los Angeles Clippers name has been thrown around in trade rumors all summer. He was linked to the Cleveland Cavaliers, then the New York Knicks and then the Cleveland Cavaliers again in a matter of weeks. Reports even surfaced that Crawford would welcome playing alongside LeBron James. Since then, nothing has happened and the 35-year old Crawford seems to be stuck in L.A.
Coach Doc Rivers has been giving the keys to the organization and is in charge of many roster discussion so what he said about Crawford and his future with the Clippers should carry some weight.
“I’ve heard all the rumors about Jamal going other places. Jamal’s a Clipper, and I’d be very surprised if he’s not a creeper at season’s end.”
Although the Clippers are a quality team with championship dreams, Crawford finds himself in a very crowded yet talented backcourt. Chris Paul, Austin Rivers, JJ Redick, Lance Stevenson, Pablo Prigioni, Paul Pierce and Crawford will all be battling for minutes in the backcourt. Pierce may play some minutes at the power forward position but it will still be tight finding minutes for everyone. This is a good situation for the coaching staff but bad situation for a player. Crawford does have an expiring contract that other teams would desire but we have to wait things out and see if coach Rivers stands his ground.
