Nationals teammates Bryce Harper and Jonathan Papelbon was in an altercation this past week which lead to Papelbon choking Harper, and it looks like the MLB and the Nationals are not letting the incident slide.
The Nationals have suspended Papelbon for four games with an addition to the MLB’s three. Papelbon will start his sentence immediately, but with only 7 games left in the season, he will miss them. The Nationals have since released a statement regarding the suspension:
“The behavior exhibited by Papelbon yesterday is not acceptable,” Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo said in a statement. “That is not at all in line with the way our players are expected to conduct themselves and the Nationals organization will not tolerate it in any way.”
“We’ll do our best to move past this incident and move beyond that,” manager Matt Williams said.
Papelbon has since tried to appeal the MLB sentence, but no word if he’s been successful.
